A really well written post. Sadly though I see like with map reading and spelling a lot of people are loosing these skills (or not even learning them to begin with) because Google has their back. You can almost spell a word right right and Google will correct it for you. It has you on directions with it's sat nav and for maths (I'm english, we add an s haha) I have seen people google "what is 73% of $4.75 and Google gives them the answer. Then there are apps where you hold the phone up to massive equations and it solves them in seconds.

I agree maths is a vital skill to know....without Google's help.
