This, I think, is a major piece of my issue with schools. Children don't learn how to think on their feet, think critically, or manage their own lives. They come out with very little capacity to handle a small hiccup, much less a big emergency. They also often have no idea who they are or what they want after 20 years of just doing what they're told.
