When my husband and I were walking along the bank of the river Latoritsa we saw a monument that came closer to it, we saw that this monument was erected after a terrible tragedy in the city of Mukachevo in 1998. On this tragedy, we do not know anything, so began to ask residents about the incident. We were told the terrible story.

                                            

In 1998, there was a very large-scale disaster in the month of November. It was a flood. The flooding occurred due to heavy rains and strong and, therefore, the banks came a lot of rivers: River Latoritsa, Tisza river, Oh, the river Borzhava and many others. This flood has taken many dozen lives, flooded more than 120 settlements, destroyed almost the entire eco-system of Transcarpathia. The losses were enormous.

Monument poured in bronze. The height of bronze composition is greater than 2 meters. Why such a monument is explained by the author - artist and sculptor Ivan Brovdi: "On the third day of the flood, the fall of 1998, I had a strange dream that I walk along the shore of the river near Latoritsa convent. Because of the mountains to the city of the big wave coming in this moment comes from the river female angel that stops this wave and saves Mukachevo. This image I immediately recorded in a sketch, but he lay for a long time I have. "

                                              

At home, I started looking for information on the Internet about the tragedy. Why did it happen so? I read terrible stories. Here is what says a resident of the city.

Ust-Chorna River caused the most devastating blow. In the mountainous areas were washed away several dozens of houses completely literally twenty minutes. People barely had time to jump out windows and standing ten feet away from the landslide watched in horror as their home carries debris flows. Rivers Borzhava, Latoritsa, Tisza up in a matter of hours by eight to ten meters. During the night it was washed away by about thirty bridges, not wooden bridges and reinforced concrete bridges built before the war with the Czechs. The river overflowed Latoritsa inconceivable podtopilo more than a thousand houses only in the city of Mukachevo. The river swept raging flow of water, rocks and logs interspersed with cars and corpses of livestock. Lying at the beach the huge trunks of old poplars flew over the bridge to the village of Old Davidkovo, destroying one-story house on the way. City Park was flooded on the chest with the restaurants and entertainment centers. The water emerges gleaming roofs of cars.
