Hello my dear friends. Our journey continues. Today I want to invite you to a virtual tour of the city of Mukachevo and introduce you to a great man and well-known figure in the city. This Alexander Dukhnovych. Dukhnovych born in 1803 and died in 1865.


The story of a great man.

Dukhnovych was a famous poet, a good teacher, who was loved by all his students. And he was a religious figure in the years of his life opposed Magyarization Transcarpathian Ukrainians. The monument was installed in 2007 in the city of Mukachevo.

     


Dukhnovych was born in the family of a priest in the village of Poplar. Now the village is the territory of Slovakia. He studied in the city of Uzhgorod in the seminary. In Presov Dukhnovych worked as a priest. Several times moved to Uzhgorod. In Uzhhorod, he worked as a notary.


In 1844 Dukhnovych finally stayed in Presov. During his stay in the city of Mukachevo in 1858, Dukhnovych wanted to found the St. Nicholas Monastery publishing house for the publication of books in the Ruthenian language. But the Austro-Hungarian authorities did not allow him to create one of this.


For the Transcarpathian Ukraine was Dukhnovych educator. He made sure that school subjects were taught in primary school, not only in Hungarian, but also in Ruthenian. He wrote and compiled the first Ruthenian "chitanku" (book reading).

                                                      


As a policy Dukhnovych fought for the independence of Carpathian Ruthenia in the Austro-Hungarian Empire. Dukhnovych was a great writer and a poet. He wrote the anthem of Rusyns. Now this hymn rapped on the monument to this man:

                                    "I Rusin was, am, and will,
                                      I was born Rusin,
                                     Honest my family will not forget,
                                     I'll stay by his son; "
