My child had the courage to try out, but was not selected. Another child that did make it, told him that his family knew the coach. I watched the tryouts and both kids were equal so it is disappointing that selections are not always merit based. It taught my son an important life lesson and we agreed that we both prefer to earn opportunities based on merit and not connections. I guess I am trying to instill old fashioned values.
