There will always be exceptions to the rule, like your example about smoking, especially if you set out to seek the exceptions. It is unfortunate that we don't have to be intelligent to live in modern society and it is worse to think that they are reproducing at an incredible rate. The intelligent may soon to be outnumbered by the unintelligent and that is terrifying.
