I kept on writing in the evenings in my room while listening to music through my earphones and drinking beer straight from the bottle. I was aware of the fact that most 16 year old girls spent their evenings differently, but honestly I did not care.

I feel like we had similar teenage years. I don't think I went to a single party in highschool, but spent most every night banging out 2-3000 words.

When you first start writing, it will probably be many years until you achieve any kind of recognition. You definitely have to learn how to write for yourself.
