Kindness, is it lost?

Kindness is a big word.

Many will say that kindness is gone from this world. In some ways, I agree with that statement and in other ways, I don't. Let me explain.

I use gaming as a way of not taking so many pain meds. It's something that I can concentrate on which in turn dulls, in your brain, the amount of pain that you feel.
*this is my observation and not a proven medical statement.

Years ago my laptop was almost dead and I could not afford a new one. A friend of mine sent me a new one. Overwhelming kindness!

Years later that same laptop was running very slow and I went in to get it reformatted and have Windows 10 put on with a clean install at the local computer shop.

Now while I was first in the shop I had talked to the very young tech man at the counter. Yes, at 53 years of age someone in their 20's looks to be about 12 in your head! He was asking me questions about what I use my laptop for and so on. We ended up talking about all kinds of games that we both had played and I explained why I did play games. He understood me and me him. We connected that day.

Now with fibromyalgia, depending on how bad you have it, it is very hard to always get out of the house. There are days where my concentration level is so low if I had to drive I would not. I would be putting the people around me at risk and I'm not willing to do that.

So when I got my reformatted laptop home I noticed, after a few days, that when I went to use the menu to restart my computer it would shut down! So from there, I tested it and in order to restart you used the shutdown menu! Hmmm...........I need to take this thing back in!!

As it happens when I finally felt well enough and had the time to take it back in to get looked at I was 2 days late from being under the warranty. sigh..........

After a lengthy discussion with a very young store manager in front of more and more customers, he said that he would reformat it one more time but if there was anything wrong with it after that he was not responsible anymore. I was also told that it could take up to a week before I got it back. I agreed and said a prayer that all would turn out fine in the end. Forced kindness.

The next day I got a call from the computer store telling me my laptop was done! I could not believe it! I got dressed and rushed over there ASAP!

I walked in the store and the young man, Lucas, that I had connected with over a month before was waiting at the counter for me. He knew how much a computer helped me make it through my day and had rushed my laptop though. Great Kindness!

He also told me that if I still had problems to message him and he would help me any way he could. This young man really didn't know me except for a 10-minute conversation about gaming and my health but he was willing to go out of his way to help someone in need. That made me tear up.

Long story short, there were problems.

The next weekend I went to Lucas's house, met his Wife and had a ball talking to two of the nicest young people I had ever met while he fixed my laptop for free. Overwhelming Kindness.

There is more to the story of Lucas and his lovely Wife Steph but I will end this part here with a few of my thoughts.

I think if you don't judge people on their appearance and talk to everyone as you would to the person you most respect in this world you open yourself up to finding kindness and new friends in the most unexpected places.

I don't think it's an easy thing to do. Our lives are so rushed now but I promise you if you slow down just a bit you will be rewarded many times over.
