10 Things You Should Never Do In An Argument.

First ten of many rules we should follow any time we are presenting or defending an argument. Do not be surprised when someone calls you out on your logical fallacy if presented.

1:
Never attack the person's character, attack the persons argument itself. ("Ad hominem")

2:
Never exaggerate or misinterpret a persons argument. ("Straw man")

3:
Never use small numbers to represent the whole. ("Hasty Generalization")

4:
Never Argue your position by assuming one of its premises is true. ("Begging the Question")

5:
Never say that because something occurred before, it must be the cause. ("Post Hoc/False Cause")

6:
Never consolidate the argument down to two possibilities. ("False Dichotomy")

7:
Never argue that because of our incomprehension, a claim must be true or false. ("Ad Ignorantiam")

8:
Never push the "burden of proof" on to the person that is questioning the claim. ("Burden of Proof Reversal")

9:
Never assume "this" happens after "that" when "it" has no logical connection. ("Non Sequitur")

10:
Never say that because something is popular that it must be truth. ("Bandwaggon")
