RE: A Tour of a TOP RANKED High School in China!

in #life6 years ago (edited)

Are all the schools in Canada the same? Surely there are high end private schools that would easily rival anything in China.

In the US there are huge differences between urban public inner city schools and wealthy suburban public schools. Then there are high end private schools which are a step above that.

Somehow I'm not surprised they don't use the art building. How much is tuition?

Sort:

No they aren't. It's just the area I lived in always had low budget public schools that I had to go to. I didn't go to a "wealthy" school until I went to the University of Toronto. It's just bad luck I guess.

I'm not too sure about the tuition actually. Students that join the international program pay 90,000 rmb for 3 years but students that join this school due to having high marks and meeting qualifications pay MUCH less. I don't know the actual figure though.

Where you teach, it appears to be a state run school, which is probably a lot more relaxed than an actual international school that has branches in every major country.

In Shanghai there are a few of these international schools, whereby everything is taught in English, and there is a wide range of student and faculty nationalities.

Academic standards are also quite high, there is a lengthy interview process that takes place before students get accepted, even into kindergarten.

Many parents jump at the chance to enroll their kids into these schools if they have the financial means, and in some cases even if they don't.

Its all about face, being able to show their colleagues, friends and family that their child is in the "highest ranked school" is more important than the actual quality of that education.

I find all a bit nauseating.

Most kids are not asked what they want in life anymore, they are just told what to do.
