From childhood to even adulthood we get asked a lot by people about our dreams and what we want to be in the future. As a child the answer would probably be doctor, engineer, pilot and so on. As we move ahead in our lives our dreams become a little less vague. We probably get influenced by our hobbies, inspiration and research. Some of us maybe really like to become a musician but may not be doing enough to achieve it because you fear of the failure.

When we dare to dream about what we truly desire and set goals in that direction, a powerful shift happens. Life is now lived with greater direction and purpose. And once those goals are achieved, confidence builds, and not only do we feel a sense of accomplishment, but we want to succeed even more.
While there isn’t a magic wand that you can simply point at your goals and watch them become realities, you can definitely take steps to ensure you achieve the goals you set. With certain level pf discipline and persistence one can turn their dream into reality.
So, let's discuss what I did to get going towards my career.
1. Isolated myself from my friends/ Removed all unnecessary distractions.
I know this sounds scary but it's exactly what I did. Only few years ago I had no ambitions and I did not know where my life was going. I hangout with my friends a lot, smoking cigarettes and going out to eat. We often talked about doing some projects together which never really happened. Eventually I got scared of my life, about my future. I stopped receiving calls, I did not replied text messages, I did not engaged on social medias. I focused towards my goals of being a IT professional. So I spent most of my time doing research.
I feel like most of us are wasting time doing unproductive activities so isolation for me was the first step.

2. Set SMART goals

Set your goals that are measurable and achievable in a given time frame. For example instead of saying I want to be an IT professional, you can say I want to build websites for big organizations. Make sure that the goal is achievable and realistic. When we set ourselves up for potential failure, it can be dis empowering and motivation can be lost. We do need to stretch ourselves when goal setting to maximize our potential, but the goal should not be so far out of reach that, more than likely, it is impossible to achieve.
3. START
This is the most simple looking step but the most important. You'll never achieve anything if you don;t start right? You wont win the race if you don't run. May it be a baby step or may it be that you're just walking, if you start at least you;ll reach your end. Like they say a thousand miles begins with a single step.

4. Be fearless/ Take Risk
One needs to take a stance in order to shine in the market. The fear of failure will not lead you anywhere. Why is being fearless so important? Because you will fail many times, and it is only through fearlessness that you will have the courage to face failure and say: “I am moving forward, I am pressing on.”
There will be obstacles to overcome that require unconventional thinking or a detour from the “safe” path. Taking risk should be seen as another step in chasing success, and almost every achievement known to mankind came with a risk, big or small.
5. Persistence, persistence & persistence.
Read that quote? Yes I can't stress enough, how important it is to be persistent. Bill gates and Steeve Jobs were not always successful. They failed series of failure. But their passion, dedication and persistence led them to path of success.
Whatever plan you set for yourself in order to achieve your goals, don’t cut yourself any slack. Be persistent in the time you get up, the time you go to sleep, the time you take to plan and the time you take to dream. Persistence will not only keep you standing firm and tall in the face of failure but it will build self-control, a crucial ingredient for success!
