Threat of ISIS in the Philippines
The threat of Islamic state in is inevitable especially here in the Philippines. Last month, a terrorist group called Maute, proclaimed that they are part of the ISIS, attacked the City of Marawi. They seige and burned half of the city that have killed innocent people and have taken hostages. A number of militants were then seen waving their ISIS black flags as they roamed the streets of Marawi.
Clashes between Armed forces of the Philippines and Maute is still going on.The President of the Philippines declared Martial law in the whole island of Mindanao which will inially last 60 days.Government forces have regained control of almost 90 percent of the whole city and have been cleared of any of the remnants of the Maute group, according to the military. As of June 22, 2017, the casualties reported are as follows:
280 militants killed (9 foreigners)
9 militants captured
69 government forces killed (10 by Friendly fire)
297 government forces wounded
45 civilians killed
