Scary Close Asteriod Last Weekend

3X TUNGUSKA EVENT OVER RUSSIA

Over the weekend scientists spotted a very large, untracked space rock traveling on a perilously close trajectory to the earth. 24 hrs later, the unexpected asteroid measuring 157 to 360 feet (48 to110 meters) wide passed within half the distance to the moon making it the largest known object to pass that close to our planet.

For perspective, the football field sized object was approximately 3 1/2 times the size of the one that leveled 500,000 acres (2,000 square kilometers) of Siberian forest.

It's unclear what was more unnerving:

1. That scientists didn't see it coming and we didn't hear about it.
2. The world was too busy listening to the latest in the Trump/Stormy saga to care.

It's crazy that something totally devastating could just appear without warning and then if headed for impact, give just enough time for widespread panic and nothing else.
