HEV 16: USING DTUBE TO BUILD CONNECTIONS! How my failure to connect with others on YouTube can help you on DTube!

SOS BRIGADE!

Feb. 6, 2007 was the first time I uploaded a video on the internet.

I interviewed anime and video game voice actors with the intent to get a job at any of the companies they worked at.

It didn't work. AT ALL.

Perfect representation of my NUMEROUS attempts at getting a job with this mentality

Why didn't it work? Cause I had the intent to use my reel and the people I talked to in order to get a job. Instead of building a genuine connection with the people I interviewed, they saw right through me and didn't help me like I expected them to.

What 10 years of failure looks like

To be honest, i'm glad I failed here.

It took coming to Steemit (and my computer breaking) to realize that success does not come from using people. It comes from being an asset to them.

How so, Shaun?

Around the time I was interviewing the voice actors, a lady I went to university was serving them.

Visual representation of her presence towards those she served.

At just about every convention I went to, she was always there serving the voice actors food and then some. She got to their hearts by being good at her job and being pleasant person. Overtime, her simple yet effective work got her a job at the place I wanted to!

I used to be so mad at this, my cognitive dissonance wouldn't allow me to make sense of this.

How my brain felt when witnessing this

Giving is just as good as receiving, as long as you don't expect anything in return.

Since being apart of the Steemit/Dtube network, i've been able to really learn a thing or two about building social proof and making connections with others.

Example of using your skills to properly make a connection

Conclusion

Be an asset when building connections. See how you can help out others and they'll do the same for you!

Very accurate #vlog @shaunonsite! People often forget that they can act in what ever way, but most of it is visible for other people, or maybe even more you get a certain feel, that says "something smells fishy" . gut feeling helps recognizing it. But why to try to act in a certain way, forgetting who You are. Easier to be yourself and to be sincere with people you approach or anything that you are approaching.. saves time, energy, and you don't loose piece of yourself.

Really great advice man! Put yourself out there, reminds me of the time I washed all the cars on my block in a string bikini...

Hello fellow Steemian .. I'm a newbie here. Please support me by following my blogs and I will follow yours as well . Hope we can be good friends.. Please check my introductory post. Thank you. Lovelots

Like I said man, it all comes down to the reciprocity rule!! Giving first and receiving second. If you do this WITHOUT expecting anything THEN you will get back what you have done. However, if you do stuff EXPECTING that should get rewarded then you won't. That is what I realized :)

Winny out...for now ;)
