#Life Update

in #life6 years ago

Well, it's been an interesting couple of days... Yesterday I flew from the Reno, Nevada airport to LAX in Los Angeles. The reason, unfortunately, was not for pleasure or photography. I didn't think I was going to be posting about this but since things are going good, I thought I'd give a #life update.

My father went into surgery yesterday to have cancerous tumors removed from his throat and tongue. (Yes, he was a cigarette smoker) It was a pretty serious surgery that lasted over four hours. Fortunately, everything went smooth and he is now recovering. I'm staying at the hospital and have been helping him out with basic needs like replying to texts, adjusting the bed, and keeping family up to date on his progress.

His breathing tube was removed earlier today and he has been able to talk a lot and voice his frustrations. Although all this has been tough on him, really things are going about as good as they can be. The only bad news is that there was a lot of cancer so they are recommending radiation therapy in a month or two. Unfortunately he will have to deal with a breathing tube again, watching that get removed today was crazy. No fun.

Soon, he will be moved from the ICU room down to a regular recovery room. I'm not sure yet how long he will have to be there but if everything goes as planned, he'll be able to leave and stay at my brother's house on Saturday. Hopefully this is the case as I will be driving back home to Tahoe ( about an 8 hour drive) on Saturday with my son @enak. He will be finished with his first semester of film school and will be back home for the holidays.

Anyway. I finally have some down time here while my dad is sleeping so I thought I'd write about what's going on.

Here's a photo of my dad, my son, and I shot a couple weeks ago. He's a tough old man:

The obligatory airplane selfie. I actually haven't flown in about 10 years. I'd much rather deal with a long drive than deal with airports but it made more sense to just fly this time.

Ok, I'll admit it. I actually did enjoy my flight. A window seat provided a ton of visual entertainment and I took quite a few photos with my phone. But no photos with the big Canon! This was the first time I have traveled without a real camera in over 20 years.

Hopefully soon I'll have some beautiful snowy Tahoe photos to share but for now, this is my #life. I hope you are all staying healthy and doing great out there!

All the best to him i his recovery

hope everything will end up good.
I thought "you americans" :D fly more often for your trips. I was in a plane once and i was 2 years old, i definitely need to change that.

Looks like everything is fine for now, thank you! Flying is cool, it's the airports that suck and drive me crazy. Definitely time to get in the air again!

Thank goodness the operation went well, long one!
The three of you there in the photo, three generations,
you all look great, awesome smiles! :-)
Thank you for letting us know @scottshots! Was wondering
when we didn't see you for a few days, that is a long
time on the internet, where a few hours can feel like days lol

Hope and pray you all have a wonderful Christmas 🎄
and 🌟 Happy New Year! ✨ Happy Saint Nicholas day!

Thank you @shasta! Yeah, I haven't been on daily lately but needed my steem fix, lol. Hopefully life will be back to normal soon and I'll be back to going out for photo adventures again... I hope you have a happy holiday season too!

Cancer sucks. But your dad looks like the kind of guy who could tell cancer to go fuck itself, and cancer would have no choice but to obey. I'm glad you were able to go support him!

Haha! He definitely is that kind of guy. Recovering fast and already wanting to go home, even though he's not near ready... I'll be heading back to Tahoe tomorrow but one of my brothers will be taking over. Cancer does indeed suck.

Thanks for sharing that with us, Scott. I'm so glad things went well with the surgery. That's a scary one. :\

Yeah, we were very happy he made it through surgery, scary one indeed. Glad you enjoyed the update and I hope everything is going great for you!

Hey brotha. My thoughts are with you. It's tough dealing with that kind of thing. Much love

Thanks brotha! Things are going good now. Pops is out of the hospital and doing well. Cheers!

Good to hear everything is ok! #life happens. Keep Us posted! #snapcomment

Thanks @prettynicevideo! He's making good progress today.

Oh shit, another example I need to quit smoking, eventhough I only do a couple of times a week. Im glad that you father's operation went well and I wish him all the best on recovery! Forward him the best wishes from northern Europe, Estonia.

Yeah, I smoked when I was younger too. Seeing the two dozen staples in his neck is goog motivation to not pick it up again. I'll let him know, thank you!
