30 Day Challenge - Best & Worst Idea Provoking Environments (Day 5)

in #life7 years ago
If you’re just starting out as a writer, you could do worse than strip your television’s electric plug-wire, wrap a spike around it, and then stick it back into the wall. See what blows, and how far. Just an idea.― Stephen King

Stephen King is one of the most successful writers of the past forty years, selling in excess of 350 million copies of his books by 2006. His word holds merit. The above quote is something that any blogger starting out on Steemit should read, and read again. Having recently read these comments myself, it provoked a thought of how I could enhance my imagination. Preceding this moment I've looked to analyse when I'm most creative. When having ideas placed themselves in my consciousness. The below list is what I've come up with.

Creative Environment

This is perhaps the most thought provoking place in the household. A study highlighted by the Business Insider showed that 72% of people get creative ideas in the shower. The sound, the warmth, the non judgemental environment. The lack of connection to others or our devices. A combination of these elements perhaps? Whatever the reason, I have noticed this is the most thought provoking moment of my day. The shower is a place for creativity. Suffering from writers block? Maybe having a shower is the solution.

Most are aware of the benefits of nature. The cleaner air, the limitless areas for movement and the beauty that each detail possesses. However, it also seems to be a strong creative destination as well. Much like the shower, solitude can be sought during a long walk. A long walk with no distractions.

Destructive Environments

Much like King's findings, the device distractions resonate with me strongly. We have all likely been there. Log onto the computer. Answer an email. Read a paper. Schedule a meeting. An hour is lost with nothing of significance achieved. Technological advancements have been significant to our way of life and for good. The ability to learn whatever you desire at the click of a button or two is nothing short of revolutionary. Whilst this is unquestionably true, I have little doubt creativity has been burdened, at least in part.

Whilst we can not alter our life away from technologies and spend our days walking through parks, we can be aware of the issues.
