3 Things I Wish I Could Tell My Younger Self

in #life8 years ago (edited)

“Life is a lesson, you learn it when you’re through.” As I heard this line while listening to the song “Take a look around” by Limp Bizkit, a thought came across my mind. Life is a linear process.

While I was supposed to be rocking to the beat of the song, I sat there having a mild epiphany. We learn as we go and at any point we are what we have learned till that point.

We humans basically have a hit and trial method of living life (a lot of the times, if not always). We try things, and sometimes we succeed and sometimes we fail. We learn in both the cases, though we learn more from failure.

We all make a lot of mistakes and fail a lot of times in life. We are basically stumbling our way through life! Sometimes the mistakes are small and sometimes they are life changing. It is in these times that we wish we could go back in time to tell ourselves exactly what to do, exactly how life will pan out. Here’s what I would say to my younger self:

1. It’s Going To Be Alright

Throughout my life, I have always tried to work really hard at whatever I have put my mind to. A part of the reason is that growing up, my family didn’t have a lot of money, though we were getting by just fine. Not well, but ok.

Still, there were a lot of things that I wanted that couldn’t become reality. This resulted in me stressing about a lot of things that were still in the future, though I wasn’t still mature enough to understand most of it.

My parents used to notice this and always used to tell me that everything was going to be ok and that there is no point in stressing out. If I could go back in time, I would really tell my younger self to calm down and not worry too much.

I would tell him that things will get better eventually and that though there will be hardships along the way, life will go on just fine. “Really, it’s going to be alright, alright, alright”, I would say, impersonating Matthew McConaughey.

2. It’s OK That You Don’t Know What’s Going To Happen

I think this is something we would all want as a superpower. To know exactly how certain events will unfold in the future. Wouldn’t it be cool? We could all just keep on making the right choices.

But where is the fun in that. As I said above, we learn more by our failures than our success. If we know how things are going to play out, we will not make mistakes and if we don’t make mistakes, we will not learn.

This is exactly what I would have said to my younger self. You don’t always need to know what’s going to happen. Sometimes it’s for the better that way.

Life teaches a lot of important lessons along the way that are helpful in the long run and you can only learn those lessons if you make mistakes.

3. Be Grateful

Being grateful is really important in life. I can’t stress this fact enough. I am a firm believer in the “Law of Attraction” which states that the more grateful that you are for the things you have, the more you will have of them.

This is something that I have tested time and again for the last 5 years and I must tell you that it really works. If you don’t believe in it, I would advice you to at least try and do it with some ‘heart’ this time.

During my younger years, I was not so grateful. I was not a brat who took everything for granted but I wasn’t grateful either. I always felt like we didn’t have enough things to be grateful for. Oh, what a fool I was.

There are a million things in our lives that we can be thankful for, even the smallest of them. Gratitude leads to a happier life and well-being. Even scientists are saying so nowadays.

Did you change an image host. All 3 images are not loading for me though I checked one to https://s28.postimg.org/5uh3bk2b1/3.jpg
On a new tab in the browser, it works but put it here and it does not.

I think it was a glitch with the image hosting site. It's fixed now :)

Looks good now.
