Ghost Friends, and what it means to you.
Those of the "Older Generation", those who remember a time before computers and before the 90's, often scoff at the concept that you can have make friends you've never met in person. Derisively calling them "online friends" and the like, this is the playing field I face everyday when talking about the amazing people I meet and keep in touch with online.
My mother doesn't believe that any of the friends I know over discord or any type of video game are really my "friends", which makes it quite difficult to talk about my social life with her at all because it inevitably devolves into the same tired arguments over and over again. At this point, I may have changed her view a little, but its too little too late. I gave up on her, especially after the last time she tried to convince me my friends were just trying to scam me for money.
The reality is, that you can make and keep friends online, without ever meeting face to face, or even without knowing their face at all. It's more about the interpersonal connection, than the way you meet and communicate. My best friends are one's that life in completely different states, and have never been within 500 miles of me, and that is okay. Yes, we can't hang out at the mall, but we watch stupid youtube videos on Rabb.it all the time. Yes, we can't touch or even be in the same room, but at least for me, virtual hugs are enough.
They are my Ghost Friends, those who follow me in my life, know more than anyone else, and have stuck with me through panic attacks, mental break down's, and general life hardships, and I would never give them up for anything. That, is the true measure of freindship, and I implore you, ask yourself this about any of your 'friends', whether they be online or in person. "Would they help me through a mental break down, or would they beg out, repeatedly, without bothering to show any care afterwards?"
True Friends aren't ones you can feel and share physical space with, they are one's you can share emotional space with too. Remember that.
