Communication is important

I know this uncle in his middle 60's who can do anything reasonable to get a good conversation. He is an ex banker who spent his life for his wife and family which included a mentally challenged son. He says his life was tough as he had to bear the medical expenses of his son which costed a bomb around 15 years ago. He himself had to deal with his hearing problem and partial blindness. However, life was all good as his love ( his wife) was with him, but God had other plans.

He got divorced unexpectedly and his son was manipulated into having no communication with him. He was not invited for his only surviving sons wedding and that made a big dent on his mind. But, I must say he is a man with strong will power who made sure that he doesn't display his problems to the world and made sure that he comes across as a gentleman with a pleasing personality.

When I met him first, he had this fake smile pasted on his face with eyes that told there is something hidden. He also happens to be my dad's ex colleague. So we exchanged numbers and he started whattsapping me. A few week later he told me his story and said that he needed to put it out of his system and needed someone patient who could lend a ear. He was so greatful I did. For me it was nothing, but for him it was a great deal.

We have people around us whom we take for granted, but then there are people who just want someone to hear them. Now I spend at least 30 minutes of the day hearing to this gentleman because he needs it the most. Though his son had started contacting him, he says the damage is done.
