Why You should not Always Follow Runway Fashion

Fashion industry has revolutionized the way we style our wardrobe every year (or every season). Whatever the fashion gurus bring to the masses through runways, people tend to start adopting without giving it a second thought. Are fashion designers the absolute authority in the world of fashion that makes them rule our choices? Where does the concept of individual creativity go if everyone is following the runway designs? Doesn't it make us all an insecure and insensitive crowd/mob who are ready to sacrifice their hard earned money on pieces of clothes (or shoes/bags for that matter)? We find it obscene to blindly follow runway designers with little focus on our budget and individuality. Following are the reasons to not follow runway fashion all the times;

• Runway fashion is usually very costly as designers price their products at above average market price. This means that you are to lose a lot of money in order to become a true runway fashionista. But is it worth it to spend your hard earned income on something that is not going to last any longer than a few months? The value of a $1,000 bag is not even $500 the next season. You should start investing your money in sustainable or more positive stuff/matters than blindly following runways.

• Have you ever thought that you were more creative in your high school when you had little money but better creative imagination? Look into your past and see how you perceived yourself during those years? Probably, your answer would be a more confident and beautiful looking woman without any personal insecurity. This was because you wanted to be genuine and authentic when it came to fashion. When we start earning decent amount, the quest to look our best takes us into a state of frenzy. We are bombarded with fashion advertisements and celebrity endorsements, making it hard to be creative in our fashion choices. The end results are apparent in the form of similar looks all around us. This results in lack of self-confidence and individuality.

• Runway fashion creates huge void in terms of social status and value as people judge each other by what they wear and carry. If someone is not following the fashion parade, he/she loses social value as people perceive them to be ‘classless’. On contrary, people who follow fashion designers are admired by majority of us as we consider them to be fashion forward and modern. It is a status symbol to wear runway designs and flaunt those dresses to those who can’t afford them. This deteriorates the essence of human society (as every human society can only thrive well if the discrimination on any ground is not only avoided but discouraged as well).

These reasons are enough for all of us to reconsider our fashion purchase decisions as we might be wasting a lot of money, missing our creative edge, and unintentionally creating a social stratification.
