Just to start off, if you don't know, an alpine lake is a lake at over 5000 ft or about 1500m altitude. The largest alpine lake is Issyk-Kul in Kyrgyzstan, but 2nd largest is Lake Tahoe, on the boarder of California and Nevada here in the United States.

Lake Tahoe is an extremely popular area for people in the San Francisco area to visit because of its natural beauty as well as the wide variety of outdoor activities you can take part of. The lake itself is gorgeous and great for activities like boating, water skiing, wakeboarding and swimming. My wife and I love just watching the sunset from the beach there. We also took an awesome boat trip on it last year where they serve you dinner and take you around, showing you various important points in the lake's history.

When it snows, the area is simply amazing. The natural beauty is intensified by the blanket of white, and the region becomes home to some of the best snowboarding and skiing on the western coast of North America. Lake Tahoe area was even home to the 1960 Winter Olympics.

I travel to Lake Tahoe often for my job (I gamble for a living right now, which I've discussed in other posts). This past weekend I did very well in my work, and my wife and I will actually be traveling to the area next week as well for a concert.

Here you can see the casinos in Lake Tahoe as well as the corner of the lake itself and the beach. I'll post more about Lake Tahoe in the future, especially in summer when the area is amazing!
