What is self-confidence?

Confidence is knowing what you're good at, the value you provide, and acting in a way that conveys that to others.It is social based attribute. It is how you determine your value in society. Contrast this with arrogance which typically involves believing you are better in a particular area than you are, or low self-esteem which involves believing you're less valuable than you think. The closer your self-assessment is to that reality in the middle, and the more you behave accordingly, the closer you are to displaying healthy confidence.
Why does this definition matter? Because if you want to raise your confidence to a level that helps (rather than harms) you, it's important to know what you're aiming for. Blindly thinking positive won't necessarily help, and it's possible to go too far. Confidence is one of those traits that can become an ethereal ideal that we all think is good, so a lot of people understand that it is needed , but mostly don't know how to achieve it.
Self-confidence is knowing what you are good at!

How It is influencing your life?

Self-confidence is very important in our life now days,especially when populism is at its peak. The way how you will show yourself, your attitude, will determine how well you will be in your life. It will be all the time around your life, like it or not, so why not to improve it ?

Self-confidence is very important in relationships. Confidence can be more important romantically than physical attractiveness. A study published by the International Journal of Cosmetic Science showed that giving men some cologne improved their confidence enough to be rated as visibly more attractive in photographs. Also more confident people are much more successful in dating. People who are more confident tend to have much higher rates of success in dating that those with lower self-confidence.
The importance of confidence in romantic relationships doesn't end at the dating phase, either. Research published by the Journal of Personality and Social Psychology showed that men in particular can have a tendency to feel worse about themselves or their relationship when their partner has a higher level of success. Of course, the moral there shouldn't be that women should succeed less, but rather that, in those situations, men must work harder on improving their own confidence level.

With a career the same. It shouldn't be a surprise that being more confident at work can mean more promotions. Pilot study at the University of Melbourne found some correlation between confidence levels as early as primary school and success in the workplace as adults. This doesn't just apply to the workplace, either. A study by the University of Texas showed that students who received some expression of confidence in their ability—even while receiving criticism—performed better later on than those who were simply told to aim for higher standards.

Being overly self-confident have it benefits also. Especially with athletes, they need to be over-confident to push their limits. They succeed by overvaluating themselves, and push beyond there known possibilities and getting the results done. Not only athletes have a benefits of overly confident. You probably have done some things for the first time. And Probably You were good at something without even knowing that you can, and it boosts your self-confidence. We can call it beginners luck, but in the base the principals are the same.

Self-Confidence is always with you. You choose to benefit from it or not!

How to improve your self-confidence?

Now days you can find so much articles about how to boost self-confidence on internet. It doesn't mean all of them work. But for beginners google is a good place to start. Remember one thing: If you want to change something know how it works. If you know how it works you can manipulate it very well. I hope my article have given little glimpse of what is self-confidence , but i hope you go deeper and investigate this. I will give some of the methods t hat gives result, but don't rely only on them. Educate yourself and remember knowledge=success. Here are some actions you can take for boosting your self-confidence:
Groom yourself. This seems like such an obvious one, but it’s amazing how much of a difference a shower and a shave can make in your feelings of self-confidence and for your self-image. There have been days when I turned my mood around completely with this one little thing.

Dress nicely. A corollary of the first item above … if you dress nicely, you’ll feel good about yourself. You’ll feel successful and presentable and ready to tackle the world. Now, dressing nicely means something different for everyone … it doesn’t necessarily mean wearing a $500 outfit, but could mean casual clothes that are nice looking and presentable.

Work out. The effects of working out on your confidence are so overwhelming that it can't be understated. When you exercise, your body releases a cocktail of endorphin that make you feel pretty good as is. When you're done, you have tangible proof that you've done something constructive and everything in your body is programmed to second that response. If you keep at it long-term, the results of a healthier body become more and more visible.

Get prepared. It’s hard to be confident in yourself if you don’t think you’ll do well at something. Beat that feeling by preparing yourself as much as possible. Think about taking an exam: if you haven’t studied, you won’t have much confidence in your abilities to do well on the exam. But if you studied your butt off, you’re prepared, and you’ll be much more confident. Now think of life as your exam, and prepare yourself.

Set a small goal and achieve it. People often make the mistake of shooting for the moon, and then when they fail, they get discouraged. Instead, shoot for something much more achievable. Set a goal you know you can achieve, and then achieve it. You’ll feel good about that. Now set another small goal and achieve that. The more you achieve small goals, the better you’ll be at it, and the better you’ll feel. Soon you’ll be setting bigger (but still achievable) goals and achieving those too.

Focus on solutions. If you are a complainer, or focus on problems, change your focus now. Focusing on solutions instead of problems is one of the best things you can do for your confidence and your career.

Enter competitions you can do well in. I know what you're thinking. "How will beating people who aren't as good as me make me feel better?" Well, for starters, you're already thinking like a winner if you can even ask that question. However, the snowball effect that comes from winning can lead to even more confidence down the road.

Underneath it all, most of this actions all center around one theme: making you feel better about doing things you're good at or who you are. There is no 100% guide how you can become confident in a week. But if you work towards it the result and payout is worth it.

Work with yourself to get a result. No one will give you something for nothing!

It is a nice perspective to look on this topic. And imo it will work. As overall there is many ways to boost your confidence. The main thing in self-confidence is that you have to do the action not only think about it.

It is how you determine your value in society

You are right, as a man thinketh in his heart so he is.

We have to believe in ourselves... If we think we can, we can...

even if we think we can't ,we have to take action ,and try .

yup.. true... but people with negative thoughts will always think I can't do this, I can't do that... So I am not doing this and that...
But for people with positive thoughts, there's no I can't... instead there will be, OK, I can try doing this...

So if person is with negative toughs, maybe its time to work with yourself and get out of the comfort zone
