So what is your stance on a day like today?
Would we have the need for a "holiday" like this if war was never a problem? Would we need "troops" if people simply stopped listening to war mongering and quit believing the media?
My stance? I think you know by now:
He who joyfully marches to music rank and file has already earned my contempt. He has been given a large brain by mistake, since for him the spinal cord would surely suffice. This disgrace to civilisation should be done away with at once. Heroism at command, senseless brutality, deplorable love-of-country stance and all the loathsome nonsense that goes by the name of patriotism, how violently I hate all this, how despicable and ignoble war is; I would rather be torn to shreds than be part of so base an action! It is my conviction that killing under the cloak of war is nothing but an act of murder.

Conversations about war, much like many topics in this country, have devolved so deeply into an irrational emotional debate. I'm all for honoring those who fight bravely on our behalf but the blind following of military action as something innately 'American' seems so senseless. Thank you for this post. If we're truly in support of our troops, we should question the basis of why we put them in harm's way.
If war wasn't profitable, would there be a need to send/support people to fight on our behalf?
I agree completely. No one should follow anything or anyone blindly...that in itself is so incredible irresponsible.
