Tony started motivational speaking when he was just 17. He may look like a steroid junkie - but he actually had a tumour on his pituitary gland that give him his "GI JOE" physique.
In interviews - Tony Robbins willingly admits that he just "kinda invented" the person he is - he even openly talks about legally changing his name. There is a real man behind all his bullshit - but he'll never allow anyone to see the real Tony.
I was introduced to Tony Robbins by a group of guys I was in a business partnership with. They were moderately successful men, drove nice cars, lived in nice houses - but they spent literally thousands of dollars on Tony Robbins shit. One of these guys had one of his course certificates (signed by Tony) - right there next to his MBA. They told me all these stories about walking on coals and really getting to know themselves. They attributed their continued success to his continued guidance.
One of the partners just went along for the ride - we would joke back and forth about how stupid the other guys were - but he was right there with them walking on coals.
I've read a number of Tony's books. They are terrible. There is nothing of substance to Tony Robbins. Everything he says is either a bullshit or something he heard somewhere else. He is like an emotionally unstable human re-tweet. I have seen him laugh, cry, and yell at someone in the same session. Im not a doctor - but im pretty sure thats not normal. For some reason - people love him.
Tony is a car crash. He is Nascar without having to watch all the boring parts. He is so absolutely "out there" that I can't understand how anyone would take business advice from him let alone pay thousands of dollars for shit he regurgitates.

He makes them feel
My friends find Tony Robbins inspiring. I had the impression that Tony only spoke to "losers" at 2am - but I realised through my journey with my fanatical partners that a lot of really wealthy people attend his meetings too. Tony makes these guys feel important - or makes them feel like they can make changes in their lives that will affect their paycheck. He will even tell you that hes nothing special (as he cashes your check) - thats part of Tony's draw. He has this energy that he uses in ways that make people feel something (the urge to pull out their wallet).
I did learn from Tony - I learned that a guy with zero education, zero business experience not only talked his way into millions of dollars as a business consultant - but he had ME watching him.
