RE: How Social Media can Actually Make us to Feel Disconnected?

in #life7 years ago

One of the questions I asked my class today was 'Is Britain today better or worse than in the 1960s?' (OK an open question, but designed to get them thinking about whether they are post or late modern in their outlook)

Interestingly, only two things came up as suggesting things are worse - the first was the pressure in education and the fact that you're judged more by your results at an earlier age (fair enough)

The second was..... SOCIAL MEDIA.... that's what 30 teenagers came up with - citing the obvious body-issues pressure, but also the 'always on' nature - AND - the fact that when you're online you're constantly bombarded with people producing shit content and getting rewarded for it and you think 'I could do that'... which just breeds resentment (sound familiar?)

NB - that doesn't apply to this post - this is a nice contribution, very good question, I just wanted to share the views of a small sample of teenagers, they don't see it as a good thing! (Which actually surprised me)
