So, now what?

Well, even as you become familiar with your new circumstances, your soul is being evaluated. Prior to assignment within the Universal Mind, your continuing consciousness will undergo an imperceptible and virtually instantaneous series of entry assessment tests.

Don't worry, you can't cram for them, and no one fails – completely, anyway. Note here that fans of Doctor Who tend to score significantly higher on these exams than those who were fervent watchers of The Real Housewives of New Jersey.

Go figure.

The test results will determine your soul's developmental level and your beginning Universal Mind “brain cell” classification. If, during your earthly existence, you were something like a philosopher, astrophysicist or science fiction writer, odds are better than even that you are heading for the Universal Mind equivalent of your former brain's cerebrum. Those who spent their adult lives in such areas as stock brokering, insurance or telemarketing, on the other hand, are probably bound for what would have been a physical brain's cerebellum.

Souls qualifying for the Universal Cerebrum can expect to eventually join the Strategic Planning Committee (SPC). The committee is currently co-chaired by the souls of Gene Roddenberry and Carl Sagan, balancing the right and left hemispheres of the analogous physical brain. At the top of this committee's agenda is the Ultimate Universal Mission (UUM) – determining how The Universe can avoid the Big Crunch.

The Big Crunch is the flip side of the Big Bang. Historically, The Universe has been unable to overcome the gravitational attraction of matter. It stops expanding, then contracts to its original pre-Big Bang singularity. Such tedious repetition, especially considering the seriously long cycle time we're talking here, understandably tends to make The Universe a tad peevish.

This is the initial Universal attempt to break the bang-crunch cycle. Ideally, the SPC will find the solution. Failing that, the committee is charged with determining how to preserve the amassed souls at crunch time and give the Universal Mind a head-start on the project after the next Big Bang.
