Christmas cookies!
The kids and I made cookies the other night.
Like most families, I grew up in a home that made sugar cookies that are iced with bright colors as a holiday treat. I remember helping my mom make the icing by pouring powdered sugar into a bowl and then adding milk until it's just the right consistency. Which proved to be super tricky...
A dash of milk...too soupy.
Pour more sugar into the bowl...too dry.
Another dash of milk...soupy again...
And so on until you finally had enough frosting to frost the neighbor's cookies too!
Sure enough, the SAME EXACT thing happened when I helped my kids make their cookies this year. HAHA
We all had fun putting the different colors on them. The kids started out using just one color per cookie, but then they saw me mix them to make a rainbow effect. Once that happened, all sorts of creativity was poured out.
My 6 year old made this one and quickly declared it the best cookie she's every decorated in her life. Which probably isn't an exaggeration, seeing that she's only 6. HAHA
Once they were finished, we all realized we'd made far too few. Sadly, they were gone before the next morning. The great news is...there's plenty of time before Christmas to make more!

Always nice to do things with children and learning them new skills.
Yes. They begin their winter break from school tomorrow, so I think I am going to do a lot of baking with them next week to fill the days. I'm planning more cookies, banana bread, and some of those big, soft pretzels with a cheese sauce. They love to shape the pretzels. Also, I'm babysitting for a friend so I'll end up with anywhere from 5-7 kids on Monday! Gotta get them busy! LOL
I LOOOOOOVE SUGAR COOKIES....... I haven't made them in years. Kids are grown and well, traditions change. So nice to see you doing this with yours.
I love these cookies too! I love them so much I will probably make them every year until my hands are too old to handle the dough! LOL
