On Aug 1, 2007, the Interstate-35W freeway bridge in downtown Minneapolis, Minnesota, U.S. collapsed over the Mississippi River. It was carrying rush hour traffic and many vehicles and passengers fell into the river. This year marks the 10th anniversary of the incident that killed 13 people and injured 145.
A fourth-floor walkway collapsed and fell onto the second-floor walkway which eventually crashed onto a crowded dance floor in the lobby at the Hyatt Regency Kansas City hotel in Kansas City, Missouri, killing 114 people and injuring more than 200. Investigations revealed that the original design of the walkways was considered too difficult to construct and was replaced with a flawed design.
A 100 feet (30.5 m) section of the Interstate 95 bridge spanning the Mianus River collapsed in Greenwich, Connecticut, killing three people and leaving three seriously injured.
