The 20 Most Bike Friendly Cities in the World 🚴🏻♀️
I just ran into this top 20 of the most bike-friendly cities in the world, published on wired.com.
As I scrolled down and read about the measures each of these cities has implemented to create a bike-friendly environment, reduce car traffic and pollution and offer a much more pleasurable, people friendly experience, I was feeling sad about the poor level of bike adoption in my home city, Bucharest.
Although this year we've seen a new bike sharing system being implemented in the city center, the major characteristic during working days in Bucharest is traffic jam.
I'm not yet brave enough to try to ride a bike again in Bucharest. I've tried it a few years back and I was so scared of the cars passing by at a very short distance that I gave up. The stress was higher than the benefits.
I'm now using a scooter like this one to go to work and move around the city.
It's easier because I can ride on the sidewalks and I'm not afraid a car will run me over.
It's not as fast as a bike, but it's still faster than walking.
Anyways, I digress...
Here's the top 20 the cities in the world who are the most bike-friendly.
- Copenhagen, Denmark
- Utrecht, Netherlands
- Amsterdam, Netherlands
- Strasbourg, France
- Malmö, Sweden
- Bordeaux, France
- Antwerp, Belgium
- Ljubljana, Slovenia
- Tokyo, Japan
- Berlin, Germany
- Barcelona, Spain
- Vienna, Austria
- Paris, France
- Seville, Spain
- Munich, Germany
- Nantes, France
- Hamburg, Germany
- Helsinki, Finland
- Oslo, Norway
You can read all the detail about what each city is doing, what they still have to work on, what are their plans for improving in this article
THE 20 MOST BIKE-FRIENDLY CITIES IN THE WORLD, FROM MALMÖ TO MONTREAL
Are you already living in one of these bike-friendly cities and you can share a first-hand view on this topic? I would love to hear it.
And if you're not already a resident of one of these 20 cities, what's the bike-friendliness level where you live?
Let me know in the comments below so maybe we can make a top Steemit bike friendly cities.
I agree with Amsterdam. From the list I've visited also Strasbourg, Berlin, Barcelona and Vienna, I don't remember seeing too many bikes. I will check again Barcelona in November
yeah, I was also surprised to see Barcelona, Paris and Tokyo on the list, but maybe from the time I've been there they did a lot of bike-friendly actions. I also totally agree with Amsterdam. :) nice that you're going to Barcelona so soon, I'd love to revisit too.
Here in NYC it's like impossible to enjoy bike riding with so many people in most areas
thanks for the info !
you're welcome, thanks for reading!
In noticed two Dutch cities in your list! :-)
I was expecting Dutch cities to be on the list :) So how is Haarlem for bike-riding? ;)
Plenty of bike lanes there

Not one from the UK that definitely sounds about right. We need to up our game! I would love to compare Copenhagen to Glasgow and see what the actual difference is. I bet my commute would be like a dream if I lived there.
Awesome post... Portland and Minneapolis for U.S. cities... I biked in Minneapolis, MN this summer (-:
