I would have to compete with the likes of Orwell, Palahniuk and Hunter Thompson, and, to call myself a writer it would be a disgrace to their work.

You mentioned three of my favorite authors in one sentence. I used to try to write like Chuck Palahniuk during and after my creative writing degree, I failed to produce anything that was published at that time other than a few poems. It was only after I stopped trying to imitate and allowed my own style to develop that things started to improve in my writing.

I only relate this experience to encourage you to be confident as a writer. You may not be a 'fiction' writer, but blogging and creating content is still a writer, just of a different kind. Nice post getting to know a little more about you Guy :-)
