Two Bosnian sisters, who had lost contact for almost 72 years since World War II, met again for the first time, thanks to the social network Facebook.

Hedija Talic, 82, and her sister Tanija Delic, 88, met again for the first time since 1941, the daily Nezavisne Novine told on its website.

Talic, who was 11 at that time, was lost when her family fled their village in northwestern Bosnia, at the beginning of World War II.

The girl, whose parents died during the war, was hosted by a local orphanage, whereas, her sister had immigrated to the United States.

"After the war, some people said that my family had died, others said it was in the United States. Had lost all hope of seeing them again", she told the newspaper.

Later, she settled in the Tuzla region (northwest), while her sister lived in a town in northwestern Bosnia, about 200 kilometers.

The two sisters were found by the help of Hedija’s son, who got in touch through Facebook with the daughter of his aunt, not knowing that they belonged to the same family.

"After so many years, we still remember our childhood, our parents and our brother, even the most insignificant facts", told the sisters.

Hedija and Tanija said that they will try to find their brother, who probably lives in United States.
