Agree with the other comments, respect of the wildlife is not there.
Has this increased in the last couple of years and does it reflect the current situation or poverty of the population?

Given the fact that I found cans of recently drunk beer at the snaring positions (quite expensive beers at that), I hardly imagine that it reflects on a state of poverty but rather a state of disrespect and lawlessness. Also take into account that some animals like deer fowl and rabbits are left in these snares to rot. Farmlands over the whole of SA is being disrespected and vandalized at this point in time, On Friday I took down another 15 and came across a few places where the fence had been cut open to grant easier illegal access.
