The town where I grew up in used to have a store. Its prices were higher than the ones in the city, but it was a convenience for the people living there if they just needed a couple of things. However, it did not earn enough from the people to survive on just that. It mainly survived, because it supplied all the prisons there.
When the prisons took their business elsewhere, the store had no choice but to close. That was about 15 years ago now. The building is still vacant to this day.

It's such a shame these places have to close down, but it's hard to make enough profit from a small town. I understand upping the price, but with so many people having cars and jobs in the cities with cheaper stores, you just chase away customers.
