The CBS TV Channel interviewed Neil DeGrasse Tyson, they later shared a part of it on the internet when he talked about God.
In answer to the question "Do you believe in God?", Tyson never used the word "atheist". Even though his explanation of the reason he can't conceive the traditional idea of the existence of a Higher Power is quite interesting.

His answer

The more I look at the universe the less convinced I am that there's something benevolent going on[...]. And I look at disasters that afflict Earth and life on Earth: vulcanoes; hurricanes; tornadoes; earthquakes; deases; pestilences; congenital birth deffects. You look at this list of ways that life's made miserable on earth by natural causes and I just ask: "How do you deal with That?". So philosophers rose up and said "If there's a God, God is either not all powerful or not all good."[...].

Sort:

The universe is so big, to think that one omnipotent, omniscient deity focused all his attention of a single race, that we are the special children. Ah whatever, it is difficult to believe that. Why are there so many religions, so many different opinions on god. There is no real answer. Religion is just there to use it for control or to escape the fear of death.

Totally agree. It's kind of arrogant assume that we're the chosen ones and some specific religion is the right, as you said the universe it's huge.

Sort of surprised he even considers the notion of a god. From my understanding, most physicists are straight up atheists-- no dilly dallying around.

Wow something to think about. Thanks for sharing!

It will always be a never-ending debate :), I'm not an aetheist but I am agnostic
