Not perplexed, overcoming the terrible pain, the professor managed to stop heavy bleeding, and when the medical aid arrived, even managed the actions of the doctors, being fully conscious.

The case of course, extraordinary, but highly instructive. Especially for drivers. Why? Yes, because in road accidents, unfortunately, people sometimes die from much less serious injuries. And only because someone who can and should help them, lingers.

Most often the death of the victim in an accident comes from acute loss of blood. There is an opinion that with severe bleeding and 10-15 minutes may be fatal. Alas, sometimes we do not have this time either. For example, with arterial hemorrhage from the popliteal artery, death occurs after 1-2 minutes, and from the femoral or carotid - in a dozen or two seconds.
Consequently, in such cases, no transportation of the victim, no waiting for an "ambulance" without a decisive attempt to stop the blood, is out of the question. Those who found themselves at the site of the disaster must act on their own.

Arterial bleeding should be stopped immediately if it occurs, pressing your finger with a damaged vessel to the nearby bone. Then it is necessary to quickly put a tourniquet or a twist from a scarf, tie, etc., above the place of injury.
If there is no fracture of the bone, a bleeding artery can be squeezed, bending the leg or arm to the limit. As you can see, all this is not so difficult. You can not just waste time. It is important not only to be able to provide first aid to the victim, but also to recognize cases when this should be done immediately. Especially with the help of yourself. Here, even insignificant loss of blood is not permissible, for with it the physical weakness weakens with treacherousness, and then fear and tragic denouement.

It is noted that with bleeding from large vessels, the work of the heart reflexively stops due to a rapid decrease in the amount of circulating blood in the system, a drop in blood pressure, and an inadequate filling of the heart. But this is the so-called imaginary death, and a person can still be brought back to life if immediately to proceed to an indirect massage of the heart and artificial breathing by the way "mouth to mouth". And here everything is decided by the time factor. If within 4-7 minutes the blood supply is not restored, irreversible processes of necrosis of the cerebral cortex will develop. And then really everything will be over.

It's not a secret that many of us are lost at the sight of, say, a stream of blood spurting from a wound, afraid to approach the fire, and the trauma received by a person so depressingly affects our psyche, that at this time we forget even the most elementary methods of pre-medical help . You can understand humanly. But after all from a trouble anybody from us is not insured, and all of us should come in time to each other on the help, overcoming fear, confusion, fright. The third, as they say, is not given. It's about life or death.
