Gender Inequality in the Workplace

The time seems ripe for women to continue to use their voice to promote gender equality.

I was watching a short video clip online of BBC Two’s The Mash Report titled “Gender Equality: 1918 vs. 2018," in which Rachel Parris is brilliant!

She briefly covers the ‘great strides’ women have made over the past 100 years toward gender equality and how some news reports have claimed “Feminism is a war on men”. As hilarious as she is in her satire, Rachel goes on to make a valid point that “The truth is, equality for women doesn’t mean less equality for men.”

This statement seems to be overlooked when some men hear anything related to Women’s Rights. Why does it bring about feelings of being threatened? Women just want equality, and why not?

Gender equality needs to exist across the board. Most recently it has been a hot topic in regards to Equal Pay.

I read an article through The Balance, that was published December 2017, titled “5 Ways to Ensure Gender Equality in Your Workplace”. In Suzanne Lucas’s article she presents interesting suggestions on how to achieve this, but her last point really hit one of my nerves! She wrote “Make Things Equal but not the Same”. In this she provides an example about “Jane’s requests being considered based on facts, but for John consider requests based on facts and on facts of his situation”. I instantly thought I misread that, so I read it again. I may not fully understand her point of view, but it sounds to me like ‘John’ is getting special treatment! What a joke!!!

Perhaps this topic is so heated right now because women are tired of just that...being treated like a joke.
