How to have a CLEAR mind - 3 ways guaranteed to work

in #life6 years ago

Good morning/afternoon/night everyone,

I'd like to take this time to share a few personal tips that have undoubtedly helped me achieve a clear mind and, if practiced, will work to do the same for you.

The following list of items should be practiced on a daily basis so that you can get in a rhythm. Those that can form habits from the tips below are the ones that will achieve the best results and ultimately clearer thoughts. Momentum is a very powerful force.

1. Establish a morning routine

You should use the morning as a time to get yourself in the right state of mind for the rest of the day. Rather than waking up and aggressively starting to work, take some time to establish the peace.

Clear thoughts and a productive day correlate directly with having a calm start. A calm mind allows you to think through tasks much quicker, with significantly less effort, and with great satisfaction

Just as an example, my morning routine involves:

  • waking up and immediately making a cup of coffee (it's like a reward for getting your ass out of bed)
  • making the bed and getting some good stretches in (yoga attempt)
  • meditating and planning out the rest of the day
  • immediately leaving for the office where I can start focusing on work.

2. Plan your day

Planning your day is incredibly essential to staying on task. As you can see, it's definitely a part of my morning routine. When planning your day, you don't need to meticulously account for every minute of your existence. Rather, just have a rough outline of what your day should look like.

For example, a typical day plan for a college student might look something like:

  • morning routine & breakfast
  • class from 10am to 2pm
  • library to 4pm
  • club meeting to 5pm
  • gym to 7pm
  • dinner
  • homework
  • relax and sleep by 11pm

3. Work in time blocks and take breaks

A very undervalued practice is to schedule your work in blocks of roughly 50 minutes. To do this, set an alarm on your phone and do nothing but the task at hand for those 50 minutes; no distractions, no peeping at your phone, just focus.

When the 50 minutes are over, stop doing that task even if you didn't finish and take a break.

Breaks are necessary for your brain to recharge so that you can get quality focus in your next 50 minute walk. You can do something like go for a walk outside, or talk with a friend, or simply just lay down and relax. The alternation of focusing and relaxing truly works wonders. This is how you train your brain to be naturally focused and think with clarity.

I hope this list of tips is of use to you guys. I'm always looking for improvements in my own routine so please go ahead and leave a comment about the things that help you stay focused.

On a separate note, and for a shameless plug, If you're interested in any of the following:
