shibari is japanese rope. a hard and difficult thing to learn and do. The result can be spectacular.
Most people doesn't know the very existence of that art. It's not about sex or nudity. Again, it's art and it's widely spread within the BDSM community. I had the chance to try this once. Hopefully, soon, I'll do it again with someone that mastered that art.

Actually saw Park Chan-wook's The Handmaiden two days ago, and even though the movie is Korean, there are Japanese influence and a scene where ropes are used in a similar way for the enjoyment of some wealthy audience :) I guess it's related to that. I didn't know it was so "popular".
well its popular within the BDSM community for sure. And since 50 shades of "hollywood" things are starting to be even more popular within the "vanilla" community. But shibari is really beautiful.
