Dealing With Bullies - A Simple But Genius Way Part 2 (the best part)

in #life6 years ago (edited)

Now onto the best part of this trilogy. This guy, in seven minutes, manages to teach such an effective way of dealing with bullies!

This post is part of a trilogy

In simple terms he does this:

  • Does not disagree or push back
  • Finds a point to agree on with the bully (is usually not actually true)
  • Takes control of the frame/conversation by asking a question. Thereby leading the bully down your path not theirs.

It’s so simple but so effective. Watch in the demonstrations in the videos the bullies very quickly run out of steam. It’s amazing.

But, that’s not a real bullying situation! Yet it still works, you just have to practice it over and over again so you get used to the formula and can do it without having to think about it.

What If They Use More Heinous Accusations?

What if they make accusations of something very serious like pedophilia or rape? How can we “agree” with their point if it’s not true and it’s something that’s heinous? Well we can still “roll with their punch” without having to agree that we are that heinous. For example instead of saying “yes I can be like that” we can say “yeah that’s pretty heinous”, “yeah, that’s reprehensible behavior”. The key is you’re not giving the bully the push back they are relying on and then you take control of the conversation by asking a question.

Bully: You’re a pedophile, that’s why you’re a teacher! I’m going to tell everyone.
Target: Yeah I am a teacher and you’re right, being a pedophile is really bad. What are some things you would do to let people know there’s such a bad person around?

It only takes a couple of questions and most bullies lose their momentum.

Bullying can be subtle and it can be loud and obvious. It’s happening all the time and it’s up to us to identify it. With deflection and questions we can turn the bully around and maintain our dignity whilst not being a door mat.

Share these posts with your friends and colleagues so that they may also deal with bullies with grace and without being a door mat.

I appreciate this skill of overcoming bullies. I'd make sure it reaches out to my friends. I loved the presentation hahaha. I loved it when the lady came in the scene. You're an idiot hahahahahahahaha but awesome

Great to hear your thoughts @lexymaine, thanks for stopping by.

Can't we just punch them in the face ?

Hahahhaha and yep that's another option. Sometimes we have to use force. Buuuuut this whole post was about another way of dealing with it before it gets to that ;)

OK .. I understand....

You want to kick them in the face instead.

I suppose its good to learn non-violent ways as well.
Like offering them some of your chocolate bar that is actually ex-lax.

The person in the video makes some good points. I have no doubt that the method shown works and has saved some kids from being bullied.
