“Masochism” beats Adversity

in #life7 years ago

When I say masochism I don’t actually mean the seeking of pain for pleasure strictly but rather a more loose interpretation of it.Let me explain.

At first I bumped into this concept by pure chance of course ,like all great serendipity alarm bell thingy’s do. As a child I was pretty normal as kids go but a bit too emotional (testosterone kicked later things got better )and often found myself in uncomfortable situations like all of us do because we don’t really know the rules of the game yet. What i noticed after a while was that the more i got exposed to the cause of the discomfort the easier it got to deal with it.What an amazing discovery!!!Nothing new here. But how often do we really do it as we grow up ?its good for you right? It builds character it toughens you up.Then why as we get older and supposedly wiser we avoid all these situations, activities etc to avoid discomfort?

It is as if your brain is protecting itself...sort of. Better yet you are avoiding the “bad” hormones like cortisol and adrenaline, which are kinda useful in a situation like this though

So far so good.Although you have to admit that your brain is like a child. If you spoil it at the very first cause of discomfort it starts to complain like a little beach it whines and whines all the time …at least mine does. The point I am trying to make I don’t know however effectively is that by actually pushing yourself into uncomfortable situations however small or big depending on the severity of your fear you essentially upgrade yourself by raising its defense against previously hard and if you are brave enough borderline nightmarish situations.

This can have a great effect in many aspects of life. Work your weaknesses .Fuck them up.Are you shy? Try connecting with people however hurtful at times.Go crazy and get a job as a bartender. Most problems in our life are self induced.Life by itself if caught in a bad mood will shoot you in the face and knife you in the back.Don’t trust it.

Realize that you have been worrying about the wrong things, if you truly realize that you have already won! OK that is a bit much..maybe not already won but at least you start to understand the rules. Try going against your nature always slowly and decisively.Just fight the discomfort, work to better yourself by overcoming your own fears and so called weaknesses.
If you manage to apply enough discomfort to the problematic area however hard that may be something magical happens
You gain true confidence. And when I say true I mean the one that comes from within yourself not your mother or your friends.Little by little fear gives way for anticipation, sweaty palms are replaced with a mental hard on for the upcoming battle with self, tears become goose pumps just by simply exposing yourself to the stimulus little by little you overcome so much more than just your fear of spiders or planes you gain the upper hand in the fight with that little fucker in your head bugging you and telling you you cannot do this and that or the other. Can you take more punches than him ?

Just wow

Not everybody can be Usain Bolt or Simon Sinek, have mansions, jets and mountains of money which by the way almost never imply happiness. But having a little bit more power over your own self might just might get you a little bit closer to acceptance and focus. After all life most of the time looks like a tail chasing, hamster wheel conundrum. Might as well try doing some cat wheels....wait what ?
