(1) THE WORD ELEPHANT

The word "elephant" means "Ivory" and comes from the Greek word "Elephas". Apart from this, there are just two species of the elephant in the whole world currently which means its an endangered animal with just 35,000 to 40,000 left in the forest. The two species left are the African and the Asian species.

(2) THE ELEPHANT TRUNK

The elephant uses its trunk to drink water and to bath too. The trunk can contain up to 14 liters of water which it blows into its mouth if it wants to drink or spray on its body if it wanna bath. The Elephant trunk is strong enough to rip down the branch of a tree and even sensitive enough to sense grasses on its path.

A just born baby elephant can weigh up to 260 pounds, compared to a newly born human baby which weighs just about 7 pounds and the newly born baby can stand up almost immediately after it has been given birth to. An elephant can have just 6 babies in her whole lifetime because a single pregnancy stay up to about 22 months.

The elephant has two large ears which is no so much of a fact but what you don't know is that the ears are used for radiating excess heat from the body during the hot weather. They are also used to communicate between two elephants, which can signify a sign of happiness or aggressiveness.

The elephant is incapable of jumping obviously because of its weight, still yet they can run at the amazing speed of 25 miles (40 km) per hour which is said its amazing considering its weight. Another amazing thing about the elephant is that they can swim perfectly by raising their trunk above the water to breathe.
