I personally think that most of the addictions from alcohol to gambling are a result of addictive personality. This thing can be caused by traumas and psychological need that they feel they need to fill. Drugs themselves are not the problem, the way we look at addicts is the problem ^^

Anyone can become addicted as we now see with the opiate crisis in the US. Addictions attack the natural attachment mechanism humans have within to connect to each other for survival. Yes, it kan be easier for people with traumatic past to develop an addiction but it can happen to anyone. You can read here Anyone Can Become Addicted. Anyone or a basic Google search on the topic of anyone an become addicted.
