Quotes from around the blockchain 01 --- Does history teach Fatalism

So i've been thinking of doing a series like this where i take a stroll around the blockchain to get to know new writers as well as discover very neat lines that i feel i can relate to at some level. And while i'm not totally sure about how far this would go, I've finally brought myself to starting somewhere at least (we owe a lot of things to our tiny beginnings).

Today, I read and resteemed this post by @ejemai which, basically, talks about seeing all of history as a push towards creativity and the will to being better, rather than constantly pointing out and dwelling on all of the worst things that had happened, and how things aren't as good as we thought they would be. Here's the quote that caught my fancy:

History surely does not teach fatalism. "History is more of realism lived by some other folks from time past."
We must not see ourselves as being condemned because of some stories from before our time, we have to be men and women of will who can breakthrough the roadblocks of life.
I have seen too many stories from time past that should make me not want to wake up in the morning, I may never want to live again if I allow these stories to take center stage in my life.

Spot on, that one. Before you go sulking and talking endlessly about how unfair life has been to you, you might wanna keep it in mind that no one's exactly impervious to rough times, That you've had it 'less-rosy' than your average joe doesn't mean the past should mold you into something you're not, nor keep you down and make you stop believing. History is meant to teach and guide, to make you a wiser person.

@warpedpoetic responded nicely to this post in the comment section with the lines:

I believe that history is there for the wisdom and knowledge it offers. The past is meant to teach us not to wallow in depression over. To be fatalistic means to give up, to lose hope, to stop believing in the possibilities of the future. The moment, one becomes such a person, one begins to die even though the slow erosion of the person is not physically apparent. It is the knowledge that history offers that make books like The art of war, The Prince, The Richest Man in Babylon, 48 laws of power and much more bestsellers in the self-improvement subgenre.

To look back on how far you've come and then decide to give up on yourself now is pretty dumb. You want to face the world straight-on, wielding all of the wisdom and ideas your past have armed you with. You want to win!

Thank you.
