Our Life Story | Chapter 18 – What do you mean!? Get out of my comfort zone?steemCreated with Sketch.

This is not the first time we shared our believes on getting out of your comfort zone. Probably every post we try to share just a little bit of our thinking with you.

A couple weeks ago I came across this quote from Einstein and it immediately got my attention and got me thinking.

"Anyone who has never made a mistake has never tried anything new"

Now for some people never making mistakes is great, not having to worry about things happening you did not expect. This is the safe way of living, only doing what you are used too and shiver at the thought of trying something you might fail at, or even worse, not even trying at all because of the fear of failing.

It might sound ridiculous at some times, but these things happen more often than you might think.    Have you ever had this anxiety when doing things out of your comfort zone? Speaking in front of a crowd or quitting your job to find something that really sooths you?

Why do so many people keep glued to their “safe” lifestyle?

Taking responsibility for your actions can be really hard. Say you quit your job for instance. If you dislike your work or feel there has got to be something better and quit, you are fully responsible for your actions. There’s no one to blame anymore.

A lot of people are not satisfied with their work , but keep putting themselves in the victim role. Its sometimes easier to blame your boss for not creating the working environment you want than to confront yourself and evaluate your life and work to get the best out of it. Even if this means quitting and search for something new you do like. Now there is no one to blame anymore, it’s just you…. Ouch!

Never knew taking responsibility for your own life could be this hard.

Everyone has a 'risk muscle.' You keep it in shape by trying new things. If you don't, it atrophies.

So what are the best ways to help you get out of that comfort zone?

First, seeing the full potential of what lies beyond the borders of that comfort zone. Just write it down so you can get to know what things lie in or out your own comfort zone, and maybe even add why. This might take some time and don’t forget to be fully honest with yourself.

Second, identify why you are scared to try new things. This could be insecurity about yourself or you feel you lack the knowledge or anything else. Identifying these “faults” give you an insight on what to improve to make getting out of the comfort zone easier.

Third, this one is easy…… Stop making excuses on why you don’t feel like trying new things! Be fully honest with yourself, that’s the least you could do for yourself right?

Fourth, Learn from risk takers. Don’t do stupid things but look at other people who have a lesser problem with coming out of their comfort zone. Do these people never get scared?  Of course they do, but they have found a way to cope with it. Talk with and try to learn from them.

Fifth, You have got to enjoy the learning process! Laugh as you fail and know you will do better next time. Failing is a part of life which gives you the best lessons possible. Don’t take yourself to seriously all the time, try to see things in perspective.

Great post! Another way to view it is that a comfort zone isn't a fence surrounding you that needs to be breached but rather a comfortable old jacket that comes with you wherever you go. Once I realised I never had to step out of my comfort zone and that it was always with me made it much easier to get out and experience new things.

This could be a very usefull view on things! Thank you very much for your input :)

Greetings, @ourlifestory! Enjoyed thinking of it. Thanks!

This is one of the best posts I've ever read about this subject! On point!
There is one great quote and it says "Life begins at the end of your comfort zone." - I believe this is true. :)
Followed :)

That's another great quote indeed! Thank you very much for your nice words. I'm glad you liked it :)
