Community service completed!

Hey there my dear readers, as the title of the post says ... I have finished my community service! which has me very excited, interesting and enriching, that is why I decided to tell you briefly about how my experience was in it specifically in some of the activities that I liked the most.

After an introductory 3-week where they explained us how we should plan our community service (mandatory requirement to complete the career) I ran into some people who shared the same interests as me and we decided to group to organize our hours and tasks to be done; one of our colleagues had previously a very specific idea about the place and activities we could do to comply with the hours required by the regulation, we discussed it and we all agreed; In the end we decided to carry out our community service in the National Institute of Socialist Educational Training (INCES) of a sector called Negro Primero, in which they teach different courses ranging from carpentry, hairdressing to maintenance of sewing machines; Many people from the community attend this institute, which made it seem like an ideal place.

Beginning we received a very warm and nice welcome, the INCES staff was very kind to us and they gave us a little tour of the facilities while they explained us about the different courses that are taught in each of the areas we visited; the area that I particularly liked the most was the one where they exhibited their carpentry creations that ranged from elaborate doors to a beautiful dining room set, all with excellent quality. Luckily right on that first day It was finishing a cooking course on "making sauces" in which we were able to briefly witness a huge amount of different types of sauces made and proudly explained by the participants of that course.

We provided the community and staff INCES with different talks where the topics we developed were: diphtheria, hypertension, exanthematic diseases, plant poisoning, malaria and occupational safety. The talks were very rewarding and interactive since we were able to resolve all the doubts that the listeners presented, apart from the fact that they were very important topics for the prevention and promotion of health, therefore I feel very satisfied with them.

We carried out a series of triages for 2 weeks where we attended approximately 70 people from the community as well as the staff that works in the institution, everything was very organized and complete, the mood of the participants and the receptivity was evident, they gave us their confidence, they were very open in the interrogation and at the moment of performing the physical examination; it is worth saying that everything went better than planned.

We were also support staff for a first aid course and one of hospital waitresses, in which I was very happy to see the interest and willingness of people to participate in them.

In general terms the simple fact of being able to help others is something that fills us as persons, having the opportunity to be multipliers of information for the community and the workers of INCES negro Primero was very gratifying for me, and made me reinforce many aspects academically speaking, apart from the amount of things I learned from the people we were able to attend.

We share many with the INCES staff and the community, even in a dance therapy we participate with them; Many gave us great confidence in telling us their concerns and we hope to have helped them as they did to us by being so cooperative and ready to be part of this great experience that was community service.

Many people find it tedious to have to perform community service as a requirement to graduate, but we must remember that we study a humanitarian career, and helping others should never be a burden.
