DESTINY VERSUS DECISIONS
Destiny, what some people may call fate, is simply the believe that somethings in our lives are in a predetermined state, a condition foreordained by the divine or by human will. You often hear people say: 'this is my destiny, this is how it's always meant to be, this has always been the plan' and so on and so forth. In fact, there are those of us who believe that every second of our entire lives has been mapped out already.
On the other hand, a decision is just a choice or judgement that one makes. Every decision, no matter small, has an impact on the next series of activities that occur in our lives. Have you ever thought, for example that if you had attended a particular school instead of the one you chose, you probably wouldn't have made it to medical school? Or that if you had married a particular person instead of your wife/husband, you would have been a happier person? These are all varying effects of decisions, some good, others, not so good.
Before I delve into the details of my discussion, let me say that I like to think of my self as a religious person. So, apparently, I believe in destiny. But most importantly, I believe in free will. I believe that God has granted each individual the ability to chose their actions unforcefully. It is on this bases that we shall each be judged. One may therefore ask, where then do we draw the line between destiny and decision? I have to say, as a believer of both, there's a thin line between the two.
Let's look at this scenario, a man, knowingly drinks 3 bottles of alcohol in a bar, then comes out to start his car and begins to drive home. Meanwhile, somewhere in town, a young lady decides to use the pedestrian lane for her evening jogging. As the man approaches town, the effects of the alcohol sets in, and he can no longer see clearly. He could pack somewhere for a while but he decides to drive on because his house is just 3 blocks away. But before he realizes, he drives into the innocent young lady who had been exercising along the pedestrian lane.
Now, think about it, as the young lady came out of her house that evening, there's no way she could have anticipated that a drunk driver will come her way. In her case, she could have done nothing, or if at all, little about the occurrence of the accident. The driver, knowing very well that he would be driving home, could have however chosen not to drink. Or, he could have chosen to take a cab or waited till he became sober. In my opinion, this is a typical example of destiny versus decision.
The truth is, there are some things that are entirely out of our control. In other words, it doesn't matter what we do, they will just happen. That being said, there are yet many things that lie absolutely within our control. Even if you are the type that believes in prayers, you would still have to create the means through which God can answer them. Growing up, my mom always said that God helps those who help themselves. So even if you wanted to partake in a lottery (which is mostly dependent on chance), you would still have to buy a lottery ticket.
So, in conclusion, our actions have consequences. While taking the action, be prepared to face the outcome. While there may be somethings beyond your control, ultimately, we are all responsible for building our own futures. Don't just sit and hope, act and hope. And if you have to pray, by all means pray, but make sure to accompany the prayers with action.

Nice topic of discussion. It has always been a question that occurs to me. Well, we forge our destiny by the decisions we make.
That's exactly the point.
I totally agree with you on this one
