CHANGE, A NECESSARY EVIL?

in #life6 years ago

It is another good day fellow steemians, and I believe we are all grateful for our lives and perhaps our good health. By way of motivation and enlightenment, I have decided to put together a short write up on Change. Change is inevitable, at most, we may delay it but eventually, it comes knocking at our doors. Personally, I am a bit conservative, I don't easily adapt to major changes in my life. But over the years, I have learnt to accept change, especially when it is for the best. During my readings today, I came across a saying attributed to Klaus Schwab which I believe we could all benefit from.

Klaus Martin Schwab is a German engineer and economist, best known as the founder and executive chairman of the World Economic Forum. His wife, Hilde, co-founded the Schwab Foundation for Social Entrepreneurship with him. He was born in 1938, in Ravensburg, Germany. He once said:

Change can be frightening, and the temptation is often to resist it. But change almost always provides opportunities - to learn new things, to rethink tired processes, and to improve the way we work.

It would seem we are instinctively created to resist change. Most people feel that change will most likely make them redundant and less useful. But that is the more reason to embrace change rather than resist it. When people embrace change, they do what is necessary to improve themselves in order to be abreast with current and modern trends. On the other hand, resisters of change tend to stick to the old ways of doing things and are unwilling to try anything out of the usual.

I have to acknowledge that change isn't always for the best. Sometimes, it turns out worse. That is why to change is to take risk, a calculated risk for that matter. Every great opportunity comes with some risk and a level of uncertainty. Those who are brave enough to take this risk, often find that their lives have been transformed by the end of the day. There are a lot of us who only get motivated to change when things begin to go wrong. Unfortunately, that shouldn't always be the case, when things are working just fine, it doesn't mean they can't get better. We should often attempt to improve upon who we were yesterday.

There's no shame in trying and erring, there's always something new to learn from our errors. Besides, if things don't work out, we can always return to our former ways.

Les Brown once said that people would resist change as if their current situation is better than the one coming, and I think it's absolutely true. People fear change because they'd not want to take responsibility for their choices and would choose to stay in their current place which is a comfortable zone.

Indeed change is a risk, but it is one worth taking.

I believe that at least some of us are. Somehow most people seem to take lives and health for granted.

I found that it must be very hard for conservative people to adjust to changes that are happing around the world. Im >40 but Im still seeing changes mostly as an opportunity than a threat. That makes things much easier.

There's no shame in trying and erring, there's always something new to learn from our errors.

EXACLY :)

Really like your post.
