Morality
Man has always been embattled with what should serve as the bedrock of morality, what determines whether something is right or wrong? What justifies the deeds done? Philosophers are repeatedly asking many questions on the subject, answering but a few.
Here are some of the standards upon which morality is based;
- RELIGION
Man overtime rely upon religion to serve as the standard which measures the rightness or wrongness of a deed. To be frank, religion had done a good job of policing the standard trust to it but sometimes it is lacking because it is fixed, and therefore unprogressive; while man evolves, and at a later stage of his growth, the morality taught in the religious books becomes archaic and unsuitable. Ancient Revelations contain in the religious books are most time given for a certain age and certain social conditions, and often cannot and ought not to be carried out in the present state of Society.
Some of the basis contain therein are often contradictory, some time calling some deeds wrong (killing) but at the latter part of the same book explaining away the same deed as right because it involves other group of people entirely, which does not appeal to reasoning. To cut it short, sacred books contain much that is pure, lofty, inspiring and can be used as moral guidebook most of the time but when it fails......man turns to: - CONSCIENCE
Very interesting!
Is there more to come on the conscience part? Would love to read more on the topic.
