"JUNGLE JUSTICE" IS WRONG, BUT INEVITABLE IN SOME CASES
Security of lives and properties is a fundamental function of government. However, for the residents of Ikorodu, Lagos, Nigeria, this is not the case as breakdown of law and order by a particular group of cultists has become the order of the day. The brutality of this cult members, has crippled the commercial, social, and political activities of the area, forcing throngs of residents to seek safety in neighbouring communities and states.
On April 11, 2017 the Notorious cult group stormed a home situated in Ibeshe, Ikorodu, and stoned a man, his wife, and son to death in broad daylight (1:00 pm), a very gruesome way to end lives of innocent humans in a society that has become overridden by outlaws. It was further reported that a pregnant woman was killed and the foetus in her womb removed and taken away by the group. Worship centres are not spared by these cultists. According to Vanguard News, the wife of the founder of Crystal Church of Christ, Aladura, Mrs. Ajidara and her two daughters were attacked by this group. In furtherance of its terror, it has written to Gbaja and Omitoro communities asking them to prepare for attack. The dreaded Badoo is infamous for raping female victims. In a particular case, members of the group raped an 8-year old almost killing the girl-child. This is how porous to crime the Ikorodu part of Lagos has become. It has been reported that the group has taken 26 lives and injured 14 others from June 5, 2016 to June 27, 2017, a period of one year.
The terrorized residents of these areas have reported this case to the law enforcement agencies, but they have been hesitant on attending to the matter. Recently, the residents have taken the laws into their hands. They formed vigilante groups to safeguard their vicinity and expressed their frustration by committing "Jungle Justice" to any member of the cult they found. On Sunday, 2nd July 2017, 3 members of the dreaded Badoo Fraternity were lynched to death by angry residents in Odungunyan, Ikorodu, Lagos, Nigeria.
The Lagos State Police Command has arrested more than a hundred suspected cult members, but residents feel the security agencies need to do more in order to protect them.
Evils of "Jungle Justice"
The innocent gets killed.
A popular comedian was among those burnt to death on the 2nd of July. Many people believe his is innocent. While some argued that some of the materials the dreaded cultists used, were found in his car.
Two Wrongs Make No Right
"Jungle Justice" is wrong and condemable, but when the Law Enforcement Agencies fail to effectively do their work, the masses have no choice but to take laws into their hands. Nonetheless, Jungle Justice has taken so many innocent lives, it is completely wrong and should be avoided at all cost.

@elyaque made this beautiful badge for me
Мigilante justice is quite common in many regions of the world, even in civilized countries, in removing from the Central apparatus of power. And as you rightly pointed out the reason is the inability or unwillingness of the Agencies to do their job.
Yes, the residents were waiting for long to get help from the security agencies, but the more the waited, the more they got killed. So they took laws into their hands.
Thanks for your comment here @natord.
What happened friend? Why is it burning? Is there a dispute between the groups?
He is a suspected member of a dreadful cult group.
@ogoowinner thanks for sharing this. This act is barbaric and not good for a civilised society. However this happens when people feel that the security forces are incapable of doing their job or in worse case, feel that they are beyong the law. Hope things improve for the better
@ogoowinner
thanks for the story line. I wonder what the Nigerian security agencies are doing about this in a state like lagos allowing such outlaws to override a popular community like Ikorodu. God will save us from the hands of evil men.
Do you stay in Ikorodu?
Amen o!
I live in Enugu. @kenhudoy, are you a Nigerian?
Nwa Afo... where in Enugu do you stay? Guess you are a student...;)
Great post here, though the is currently under control, i feel you should also talk more about the "badoo" group that brought about This issue.
Thanks for reading @destinysaid. I think I talked about them here.
