An Agricultural proposal
Poultry farm is one of the lucrative businesses. This project is for the purpose of raising Day-old chicks' broilers for an optimum of seven weeks to be sold either as dressed or as life foul to be consumed as meat. The DOC will be procured from reputable hatcheries, feed in the first three weeks with starter mash and then in the remaining weeks with finisher mash. The live weight of a bird at the final stage should be 2.9kg.
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
The proposed nsikans farm (ventures) aims to produce 200 broilers, suitable and fit for meat consumption. 210 birds shall be acquired from reputable hatchery. These birds shall be transported by night from Ibadan to nsikans farms in AkwaIbom state. The housing rent is about $160. The birds are housed, fed and watered ad libitum day and night for seven weeks. They birds at the target maturity will be harvested by the farm manager, weigh live or dressed and distributed to the identified customer. At each point of harvest another batch will be in process to ensure an initial monthly 200 birds harvest. Target is to achieve 580kg(609kg) each time, hence about 475kg(19bags) of feed which cost $170 will be needed at starter level and 625kg(25bags) of feed which cost $280 will be needed at finisher level. Each requirement for purchase of DOC is about $120; others (fuel, medication and salary) will be about $128. Total cash flow is in the average of $830.
OPPORTUNITY
The demand for poultry (broiler meat) is ever increasing, continuous exploitation and expansion will be the status of the farm for a long time. Below are few exploitable opportunities to be exploited by nsikans farm.
Opportunity within the first one year, to dress and sell directly to eateries at $50 each hence increasing the marginal profit by 20%
Expanding to 500 birds per-month in the first two years with the introduction of two breeding pen.
Finally, a well determined nsikans farm strategically managed could in five years generate in revenue by putting in place, a plant that can process 500 birds per day to generate over a million in annual revenue and profit to the tone of about $1800 per-annum. This possible based on the available data on poultry consumption in Nigeria, which is drastically increasing, government policy which has placed a banned on the importation of poultry product and also the entrance of new consuming outlets scattered around town. Lifestyle is also improving.
